Yeast infection
In a woman vagina are some little organisms that live in small numbers on the skin of vagina, called yeast. If the vagina becomes less acidic, the yeast can grow and can cause yeast vaginal infections. Generally it is caused by Candida albicans. The acidic balance can also be changed by menstruation, pregnancy, diabetes, pills o steroids.
You can diagnose by itching at the skin that surrounds your vagina, by feeling pain during sexual intercourse, or swelling of the vulva.
Yeast infections can be treated or using a cream inserted in the vagina with a special applicator, or using a suppository that it should dissolve by itself.
Do not treat these infections by yourself, it is important to see a doctor first because you have to be sure that it really is a yeast infection, and second because you can’t take medicines on your own.
Watch out if your partner has the same symptoms, because there were cases when the yeast infection was transmitted to the sexual partner. He should also go to the doctor.
You can avoid making infections by not wearing tight fitting clothes, or synthetic fiber clothes, you can choose cotton panties, and do not forget to wipe yourself correctly: from front to back after using toilet! Be sure that you won’t keep to much the swimsuit or wet panties on!
