FOOT MAsSAGE
Few things feel more soothing than a good foot massage. With more than 70,000 nerve endings in your feet, it’s no wonder that reducing tension and fatigue in your feet promotes relaxation and revitalization throughout your entire body. Your feet deserve some attention. Most people throw on their socks and shoes every morning without ever thinking about their feet.
Just holding your feet between your hands or soaking them in a warm foot bath is a great way to start getting in touch with your feet. When you become more aware ofwhat your feet need to feel good, you’ll want to include some foot pampering in your daily routine. Massage relaxes the muscles and tissues of the feet, increases circulation in the feet, helps the body eliminate toxins, reduces tension, and promotes relaxation.
Self-Massage
One of the best things about foot massage is that, unlike your back and shoulders, your feet are easy to reach with both hands so you don’t have to wait for an appointment with a massage therapist; you can work on your own feet whenever you want. With a few simple strokes you can bring your feet back to life.
• First, warm and wash your feet with a 10- to IS-minute foot soak. After your soak, pat your feet dry with a towel, making sure to dry between the toes.
• You can use a litde bit of oil or lotion (a drop about the size of a dime) to massage your feet, but don’t use too much, or your feet will be too slippery. Adding essential oils to your carrier oil or unscented lotion is another way to increase the benefits of your foot massage, since the soles of the feet will absorb the essential oils. For revitalizing tired, aching feet, use peppermint oil, which feels tingly and refreshing against the skin. Eucalyptus oil also feels very cool against the skin but at the same time warms the muscles.
